# Colt SCION

## SECURE, VERIFIABLE, NEXT‑GENERATION CONNECTIVITY

#### THE CHALLENGE

Enterprises today operate in an increasingly complex and high‑risk networking environment. Cyber threats are growing in volume and sophistication, large‑scale routing incidents continue to impact global connectivity, and regulatory requirements around data security, sovereignty, and control are becoming more stringent.

Traditional Internet‑based connectivity exposes organisations to **security risks such as traffic interception, route hijacking, and denial‑of‑service attacks**. In addition, it provides limited transparency and control over how traffic is routed. Even private WAN services, such as IP VPN, rely on implicit trust within a single provider domain and offer limited end‑to‑end visibility and control.

For organisations handling sensitive, regulated, or mission‑critical data, these limitations introduce operational risk, reduce control, and create challenges in meeting compliance requirements.

#### THE SOLUTION

**Colt SCION** is a next‑generation networking service based on **SCION (Scalability, Control, and Isolation on Next‑Generation Networks)**, a technology originally developed in Switzerland and widely adopted in highly secure environments such as the Swiss financial sector.

SCION introduces a fundamentally new approach to networking by creating a **secure and verifiable network layer**, where routing paths are explicitly defined, cryptographically protected, and fully transparent.

With Colt SCION, organisations can exchange data over **trusted, controlled, and auditable paths,** across single or multiple service providers.

Colt SCION provides a **high‑assurance WAN foundation** for organisations that require the highest levels of security, resilience, and control for critical applications and data.

#### KEY BENEFITS

**Security by design**

Protect your network against routing attacks and manipulation.

* Cryptographically secured path validation and packet forwarding
* Protection against route hijacking and spoofing
* Reduced reliance on implicit trust between networks

#### PATH CONTROL AND VISIBILITY

Define and verify the exact end‑to‑end path your data takes across the network.

* Deterministic routing behaviour
* Full routing transparency and auditability
* Ability to enforce geographic, regulatory, or provider‑based policies

#### MULTI‑PATH RESILIENCE

Use multiple network paths simultaneously to maximise availability and performance.

* Instant failover without service interruption
* Traffic distribution across independent routes
* Improved availability for mission‑critical applications

#### TRUSTED CONNECTIVITY ACROSS PROVIDERS

Extend secure networking beyond a single operator domain.

* Secure connectivity across multiple carriers
* End‑to‑end verification of routing integrity
* Consistent performance across domains

#### DESIGNED FOR REGULATED AND CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTS

Support strict compliance and high‑assurance requirements.

* Enables data sovereignty and policy‑based routing
* Supports regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and public sector
* Enables connectivity to trusted isolated domains (e.g. SSFN)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.colt.net/datasheets/security/scion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
